About LaShonda

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, I spent many hours in the kitchen as a kid cooking for my brother and sister. When I was 15, I started my first job in the fast food industry. After a few years, I joined a group home for those with mental and physical disabilities as their in-house catering chef. I loved having the freedom to plan daily meals for the residents and the opportunity to get creative in the kitchen. After a stint at a popular Savannah diner, I moved to South Bend where I began working for both the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College in campus dining. I loved interacting and fostering relationships with students daily. I knew that I wanted to run my own business, and catering felt like the perfect way for me to get creative in the kitchen while getting the opportunity to get involved in my customers' special days. Soul food, and particularly the kind that I enjoyed growing up in Georgia, was hard to find in South Bend.

So, I created LaShonda's Soul Food Cafe in 2019. Since then, I've had the opportunity to cater birthdays, family gatherings, church banquets, and corporate events, to name just a few occasions. I stick to my tried and true recipes but love to have fun in the kitchen creating new dishes. My children are my best food critics! I absolutely love what I do, and would be honored to cater your next event.
